Bach Flower Remedies
Bach flower remedies are gentle preparations made from wild flowers, created in the 1930s by the English physician Dr. Edward Bach. Rather than addressing physical symptoms, each of the 38 remedies is associated with a particular emotional state — fear, worry, indecision, discouragement, resentment — with the aim of supporting emotional balance and everyday wellbeing.
What Are Bach Flower Remedies?
Dr. Bach grouped human emotional difficulty into seven broad categories and identified a flower for each shade of feeling within them. The remedies are prepared as liquid tinctures or pills, are free of dosage restrictions, and are suitable for adults and children alike. They are not medicines and do not replace medical treatment — they are used alongside ordinary life to help you feel more like yourself.
The Seven Emotional Groups
Every remedy belongs to one of seven families. Browsing by how you feel is usually easier than browsing by flower name.
- Fear — from vague unease to sudden panic
- Uncertainty — indecision, self-doubt, loss of direction
- Lack of Interest — apathy, daydreaming, living in the past
- Loneliness — withdrawal, impatience, needing company
- Oversensitivity — being easily influenced or hurt by others
- Despondency and Despair — guilt, exhaustion, self-reproach
- Overcare for Others — worry for loved ones, intolerance, control
The 38 Remedies
Each flower has its own indication. Some of the most widely used include Agrimony for those who hide worry behind a smile, Mimulus for fear of known things, White Chestnut for thoughts that will not switch off, Walnut for periods of change, Larch for lack of confidence, and Olive for complete exhaustion. Rescue Remedy
The best known combination blends five flowers into a single formula intended for moments of acute stress — before an exam or interview, after a shock, or during a difficult day. See Rescue Remedy pills.
How to Take Flower Remedies
Take two pills from each bottle four times a day, leaving a minimum interval of two hours between doses. There is no age restriction, no dietary restriction and no fixed dosage ceiling. Remedies can be combined — most practitioners use up to six or seven at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do Bach flower remedies work?
Each remedy is matched to a specific emotional state rather than a physical complaint. You choose the flowers that describe how you currently feel, and take them consistently over several weeks.
Are there any side effects?
The remedies are very dilute and are generally considered safe, with no known interactions. They are not a substitute for medical care — if you have a health condition, continue to follow your doctor’s advice.
How long before I notice a change?
This varies. Acute states may shift within days, while longer-standing patterns are usually worked with over several weeks or months.
Can children take them?
Yes. There is no age restriction, and the remedies are commonly used by all age groups.
